Hello Captains, and welcome back!
For over two decades, PMDG has reigned supreme as the undisputed titan of third-party payware aircraft development. Their legendary lineup—including the Boeing 737, 747, 777, and the Douglas DC-6—set the benchmark for study-level realism across platforms like FS2004 (FS9), FSX, Prepar3D, and Microsoft Flight Simulator. Like many of you, I’ve flown every aircraft they’ve released, starting way back in the FS9 era. I repurchased where needed during the P3D years, and today I proudly own their full MSFS fleet—eagerly awaiting the 737-800’s arrival in MSFS 2024.
PMDG still delivers quality and reliability, no question. But in the MSFS era, I believe the crown has quietly changed hands.
Enter Fenix.
Since bursting onto the scene with their jaw-dropping Airbus A320 for MSFS 2020, Fenix has consistently raised the bar. Their expanded A319 and A321 variants—complete with all engine types and wing configurations—round out a full Airbus A320 CEO family, offered at a price that’s hard to beat. The depth, fidelity, and innovation they bring to the table feel like a seismic shift in what we expect from modern aircraft add-ons.
If they keep this momentum, I suspect Fenix will continue to surprise us—and maybe even redefine what “study-level” means.
So, what do you think? Has PMDG been dethroned, or are they still the gold standard in your hangar?
Until next time…
✈️ Happy Flying!
