Apparently, a new flight simulator called Airland World was introduced during the 2025 FSExpo just a few weeks ago. The lead developer conducted a presentation outlining the project’s ambitious goals, including a one-to-one scale Earth built in Unreal Engine, designed to accommodate all forms of flight simulation within a unified ecosystem. They’re aiming for a release by late 2025 or early 2026.
The FSExpo presentation is available for viewing, though it’s worth noting — and somewhat disappointing — that all imagery used was AI-generated and doesn’t reflect actual in-development visuals. You can check out their presentation if you’re curious.
Now, while opinions will naturally vary, Microsoft has clearly reclaimed the #1 spot in the home flight simulation market with MSFS 2020/2024. I believe X-Plane holds a solid position at number two. Of course, some might argue in favor of X-Plane topping the list, but regardless of personal rankings, I think we can all agree these two are the dominant platforms.
As for Prepar3D, I’d place it third — though honestly, its future feels increasingly uncertain, especially given that most developers have stopped creating content for it.
With all that in mind, I struggle to see the necessity — or the space — for another flight sim platform. In my view, any new entrant would need to leapfrog the top two to stand a chance, and if that doesn’t happen, it’s hard to imagine 3rd party developers investing their resources. While I do support competition in principle, Airland World has an uphill battle ahead if it hopes to gain traction within this community. We’ll have to wait for real gameplay footage and more concrete details before drawing further conclusions.
Until next time…
✈️ Happy Flying!
