Hello Captains and welcome back. Wow, what an adventure this has been. Over this next week I will be flying from Russia over towards the Aleutian Islands. While I’m still along ways from home, I feel as if I’m rounding third base and home plate is calling my name. Due to my wife’s work schedule the past few days, I’ve had more time to fly and have been cranking out the flights. I’m still doing them in real-time, but once I’m at a safe cruising altitude I can kick back and watch a movie and that’s what I’ve been doing the past few days.
Flight Day 56
Alaska, here I come. Spent the night in Russia and this morning I’m headed across the Bering Sea towards the Aleutian Islands with my first port of call being Eareckson Air Station (PASY). It’s another long flight and while I would love to take a day off, I think I will wait until I reach Dutch Harbor. After many weeks of being outside the US, it is a good feeling to sleep on US territory.
Flight Day 57
Up early and preparing to leave Eareckson Air Station. Today is two flights as I make my way to Dutch Harbor, Alaska with a brief stop on Atka Island. I’m looking forward to taking a day off and exploring around Dutch Harbor. Perhaps I’ll run into some of the crab fishermen.
Flight Day 58
Enjoyed my day off in Dutch Harbor. I walked along the area where the crab boats are docked and saw several from the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch series including the Northwestern. But it’s time to leave Dutch Harbor and resume my adventure. Today I’m headed to Kodiak Island where I’ll spend the night. I should arrive with some time to explore both this evening and a few hours tomorrow morning. I’ll make a brief stop at Port Heiden.
Flight Day 59
Ready to depart Kodiak Island with two stops today before reaching Juneau. I’m headed northeast to Middleton Island then Yakutat, then finally to Juneau. I’m going to take a day off and explore Juneau. The flight from Middleton Island to Yakutat will mark the final open water crossing flight for the journey and if I’m honest, I’m happy for this as crossing wide open bodies of water isn’t very scenic and certainly doesn’t leave many options should I experience any mechanical issues with the Comanche. Of course I could have avoided this crossing by flying further north into Alaska near Anchorage, but I decided to take the short cut across.
Flight Day 60
It’s time to depart Alaska, but before I do I will make one last stop in Ketchikan for lunch before proceeding down to Bella Bella on Campbell Island within British Columbia, Canada. I will spend the night here then proceed back into the lower 48 of the US tomorrow.
That’s a wrap on another update post. If all works out as planned, I will safely be back in Georgetown, Texas next week. Please join me next time for the final update.
Until next time…
Happy Flying!!!
