Hello Captains and welcome back. Another week of flying is before us as we continue hopping from island to island making our way back north of the equator and back into Asia. Many of the islands we visited over the past two weeks and several this week were instrumental during WWII. Actually many of the airfields on these islands were built as a result of the war by US and Allied Forces.
Flight Day 41
We’re back flying today after a day of rest in Vaiaku on the island of Funafuti. Today we have two flights planned as we head southwest towards Longana on the island of Vanuatu with a brief stop on the island of Rotuma.
Flight Day 42
Today our fight path takes us northwest towards the Solomon Islands as we fly to Honiara Airport in the Province of Guadalcanal. As the leg is almost 600 miles, we’ll only fly the one flight today and spend time exploring around the area.
Flight Day 43
Up early for breakfast and after a complete walk-around inspection of the Comanche we’re off today for two legs as we head towards Papua New Guinea (PNG) with a brief stop at Aropa in Kieta, PNG before proceeding further to Madang, PNG.
Flight Day 44
Today we’re headed up the coast of PNG from Madang back towards the Indonesian side of the main island of PNG for a brief stop in Jayapura before proceeding to the Mokmer Airport on Biak Island. As we’re slowly inching our way back to the equator, these two flights will get us pretty close to crossing over which we should be able to do tomorrow.
Flight Day 45
After a light breakfast we’ve arrived at the airport with the plan on completing two flight legs today as we head closer north of the equator to Manado, Indonesia with a brief stop in Sorong on the Bird’s Head Peninsula. While we would love to take a day off and explore the area, we’ve decided to push on tomorrow for the Philippians and schedule a rest/exploring day once we reach the Manila area.
Well that wraps up another week of updates. I’ll return soon for the next series of updates.
Until next time…
Happy Flying!!!
